Summer started off great- despite the rising temperatures.

Getting straight to the point: how strong is your faith?

Not just in Allah, but in people?

It’s all well and good to rattle on about how many times you pray and how much Quran you read, but do you pray believing that this might be the last chance you’ll have to kneel before Allah? Do you read Quran understanding the message being conveyed?

Following routines is good. Doing what you’ve been taught to do since you were a kid is also good. But don’t just sit on the information given to you- use it to enhance your understanding and increase your knowledge. Question not just the ‘hows’ of everything, but ‘why’ it’s done that way.

Be innovative!

Guess who’s back?

It’s been a while. Logging in after ages, must confess, I’d lost my password

Still not happy with the layout of my blog and still nowhere near understanding how to use wordpress.

(*reminder* hit the web after the exams*)

I wrote this a while back, something to chew over as you prepare for your exams:

I’m listening to Owl City on my once new music player and looking out of my half open window in the University of Engineering and Technology.

It’s an enigma to be sure. This mini world I’ve landed in. Through the slightly holey and paint blocked netting of the window, I can see outside (well one would hope so).  It’s safe, there’s still an hour or so until I have to worry about the outsiders being able to see me sitting inside.

Which is an irony to be sure.

It’s the road where people walk to see and be seen. You won’t find any genuineness here. It’s all images produced by the people themselves but whether it’s to deceive the others around them or themselves- “that is the question” (like Shakespeare once wrote)- because that’s all it does, deceive.

Most of the people I see are students- this is the crème de la crème of Pakistan- students who achieved some of the highest marks in their FSc papers and went on to defeat the monstrous UET entrance exam.  This means more than two years of non-stop studying, extra classes, tuitions, attending academies etc. Yet, this knowledge has only led me to conclude that just being studious does not make a human being a person. After looking at the different personalities around, the word ‘different’ cannot be used as there’s not a huge difference among them.

At the same time I have met people who I never imagined could be- who taught me (are still teaching me) to be footloose and carefree. In whom I have not seen any double standards because they simply are so joyous to live life, be where they are, doing what they are that they don’t let anything  get them down. To them all that matters is how they perceive the world, not how the world perceives them.

So if you can find such a person, hold on to them- they may change as life goes on, but they’ll always remain true to themselves. If you haven’t, get a fine toothed comb and start searching!

This one’s for all you UETians; old or new, juniors or seniors- make the best of what you’ve got!

Now please excuse me- there’s a rather elusive mosquito that’s been bugging me for the past few minutes, and now it’s my turn.

Happy exam season everyone- try not to let the papers bury you!

Great. The 20 million or so people affected by the intense flooding wasn’t enough, they decided to rack up the rate by a couple of suicidal bombings. Thanks guys, you’re so helpful. I mean what’s a couple thousand more dead eh?

And the people. They know how bad the times are in Pakistan are, but no, ‘juloos’ had to be done. Why can’t you people just stay low until it all blows over? Are you all that suicidal?

Take a step back, Pakistan was originally made because the Muslims could not live with Hindus. It was to be an Islamic country. What are you shwoing the world? This is Islam? Suicide is haram but you see them blasting away- content not to just kill themselves but those around them too.

How the representatives of our country are jetsetting around the world while millions lives are ruined by floods. How this governement is more concerned about not being humiliated on television rather than doing something about the crisi that has struck already?

Foreign leaders think more than twice before sending us aid because they think it’ll all be eaten up by our officials (and I for one don’t blame them because I think the same thing) and the people inside our country- sure there’s the initial drive to do something (if they are aware of it happening and can be bothered to do something about it) but that too is soon forgotten.

So place yourself in the shoes of someone who has literally lost their entire world. And have no chance to reclaim it. How would they feel? How would they live? Sure, the made it through the terror of the floods, but the devstation is has wrecked, how does one live through that without any help, support over even the hope of it?

Think about it

It’s all about the theme (that’s the WordPress lingo).  When I find the right one, everything else will find itself and fit- like a jigsaw puzzle.

Hitting wordpress themes on google revealed a multitude of websites.

LighWord looked good, but only from a distance.

The Erudite looked good from a distance, at a closer look, no spark. Something was missing.

Atlantis rung a few bells. There was color and a nifty image flasher, but the niggling at the back of my head was wise enough to point out that that nifty gadget might give some people trouble loading. The spark flared and died.

Then I saw Rabbit Hole, nopes, too black and blue for me.

And Lost Island was too lost.

I found LivaTheme but it did not exist anymore. (then why is the link still there?)

Livosa was another one “Not Found”

Oriotte solved it all. I’d found my theme and all was well. The first thing that came to mind? The new name…. see, I told you it’d come!

But I love the ocean. The sea has always been a source of inspiration for me. So I googled “wordpress ocean themes” and the first site claimed to have the 30 Best WordPress Themes with Ocean Background. All junk.  Warm Spring drew interest but turned out to be too blue.

So Oriotte is the one.

But to upload it? I googled “how to install a wordpress theme” and first site made me completely dizzy.

After looking through some more, I found a step by step on how to use an FTP client to upload a theme. I installed FileZilla. And got to work on it.

And I haven’t moved on from there. FileZilla won’t let me connect to the server. *sighs*

Any tips?

* Over My Head by The Fray

I’m a blogspot girl. Always used blogger for blogs. The one time I tried to use WordPress, I ended up walking around in circles until I got dizzy and ran away back to my comfort zone.

But I still want this blog to be as good as I can make it so I’m gonna be clicking on all the help signs and do my homework by reading up on it.

A lot of things have to go though. The theme or template (whatever it’s called) is so dull. And the name of the blog, that’s first in line. “Blog of Aeman Javed” Not really very exciting.

Although I did manage to change my password without getting lost- yay!

So for now, this blog is going under construction!
